Carlsbad Businessman Selected to Run Non Profit Veteran Resource

The Alliance, a Sacramento- based and 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, is emerging as a national resource for a new generation of service-disabled vet.

Mike Sabellico, who became a San Diego business owner following a 20-year career in the U.S. Coast Guard, has been named the executive director of the Disabled Veteran Business Alliance (DVBA), it was announced earlier this week by the Sacramento-based organization’s board of directors. He replaces Rich Dryden, who has led the DVBA for the last nine years, and will continue to serve in an advisory role.

The Alliance, a Sacramento- based and 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, is emerging as a national resource for a new generation of service-disabled veteran. “I’ve been working as a volunteer for the organization for the last three years and am excited to now be able to devote a full time effort leading the Alliance as we grow from a small, mom and pop business to a corporation with a national membership and presence,” said Sabellico.

Sabellico founded Carlsbad-based Vanguard Global Solutions (Vanguard), a verified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business by the Department of Veterans Affairs and a certified Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise by the State of California’s Department of General Services in 2010. Today he is its president and chief executive officer.

Vanguard specializes in homeland security systems, emergency preparedness and business consulting. Sabellico is also a consultant to the Orange County Small Business Development Center in Santa Ana and recently received the 2014 Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year Award from the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Santa Ana District Office.

The Alliance provides guidance, networking, legislative advocacy and assistance in securing public and private contracts through programs actively seeking to hire businesses owned by disabled veterans. Since its inception, it has helped thousands of men and women restart their lives and achieve financial rehabilitation.

Sabellico has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and recently earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. He currently lives in Carlsbad with his wife, Kathryn, and sons Shawn and Kevin.
